Do the Lies We Tell Help Us in Online Dating?
Recently, the dating site OkCupid released a report
regarding the most common lies that are used when
seeking love via an online dating site. The data was
collected from over one million users of the site. The
data collected points to four major lies that are told
by both men and women of varying age groups.
Believe it or not, people lie about their height. On
average, most users added at least two inches to their
real life height. This occurred in around seventy
percent of men. Women on the other hand will fib about
their weight and body type more often than their
height. Studies have pointed to taller people being
more successful and having more partners sexually.
There might be something to this lie. OkCupid did find
that short women under five feet ten inches, received
more messages than women around six feet in height.
People tend to be poorer than what they report online.
OkCupid found that this number is about twenty percent.
It has been reported by other studies that this is the
number one lie that men will tell when seeking a
partner. A man's income is one of the leading factors
of attraction so the conclusion would be that this lie
can be favorable for a man.
The report pointed out that an attractive photo will
most often be very out of date. The findings revealed
that the older the man then the older the length of time
from when the photo was taken. Younger men would have
photos that were around two hundred days old where a man
of fifty would have a photo that was taken around five
hundred days ago. The study suggests that the hotter
the photo, then the older the photo is.
Most women under the age of thirty five report
themselves as bisexual. The truth of the matter is that
one in four of these women are actually into men and
women simultaneously. The study revealed that eighty
percent of listed bisexuals are really only interested
in one gender.
